The History of Burzum

Kristian Vikernes was born in 11 February 1973 in Bergen, Norway.
In 1993, he changed his name legally for Varg, which means ‘wolf’ in Norwegian.
Vikernes formed a music project in 1988 and call it Uruik Hai, which is the name of the orcs trooper elite in “The Lord of the Rings”.
In 1989, he entered in Old Funeral, a band of Norway and abandoned his first project for two years.
In 1991, Vikernes makes a new project and called it BURZUM (darkness in black language). Vikernes is responsible for all instruments, vocals and lyrics.
This year launched his first Demo. This album is one of the early Norwegian Black Metal’s movements.
In 1992, he released his debut album, Burzum, under the label Deathlike Silence Productions ‘DSP’ , a record owned leading Euronymous guitarist of Mayhem. That disc became and icon of Norweigan Black Metal.
The following year came out the EP Aske under the same record DSP, which has the ruins of Fantoftkirke in the cover, a church that was burned in 1992 by Varg. This disc was limited to only 1000 copies.
Also in 1993 comes the second album, Det Som Var Engang, which originally was to be launched by DSP, but it was first launched by Cymophane and one year later in digipack by Misanthropy, which would launch all material Burzum onwards.
Vikernes helped in the album debut of Mayhem “De Mysterris Dom Sathanas”, interpreting the bass.
A time later, Vikernes is found guilty by Euronymous's murder, who at some times was his friend, and he sentenced to 21 years of prision, the maximum sentence in Norway.
Far from finishing Burzum’s history , in 1994 there goes out what is considered by many people his best album Hvis Lyset Tar Oss.
In his time in prision, Vikernes has recorded two albums in a dark ambient style. They were released as Dauði baldrs in 1997 and his latest album Hliðskjálf in 1999.
In 2002, go out sale "Anthology", a compilation of the most famous songs of Burzm.
Vikernes claims that will probably launch more material under the name Burzum, which sound very similar to the first albums.
